As a girl gets older, anytime from 8 years old, her body starts changing. Some of the changes are as follows:
- Her breasts will become bigger
- Her body becomes rounded
- She grows hair under her armpit and pubic area
- She starts seeing her period (menstruation).
All these are signs of growth and development and there is nothing to worry about.
Period Basics
As a girl matures, she starts seeing her monthly period. This is normal, there is nothing to fear and it should not prevent you from living your normal life.
When does a girl start seeing her period?
On the average, girls start seeing their periods at around 12 or 13 years, but some can see their period as early as 9 years
How often does a girl see her period?
A girl sees her period monthly, it could occur once (probably every 25 to 35 days) and it lasts for between 3 and 7 days each time.
What happens during a period?
About once every month, the lining of the womb builds up to prepare to support a pregnancy. When a girl does not get pregnant, the body sheds this lining of the womb, which is menstrual blood, through the vagina.
